They are a syncretic religious group that originated in the middle east and took elements from many faiths. The other day, I was reading about the Bahi faith. Black, The Scrolls and Christian Origins (1961). Rowley, Zadokite Fragments and the Dead Sea Scrolls (1952). I there any other document from earlier times (say before the V century) that connects the lineage of Jesus with the Onias dynasty? Therefore, my questions are:ĭoes anyone know of any pre-Baha-i, Islamic, samaritan document which deals in length with Jesus genealogy? Maybe in the Hadiths? I doubt someone in the s.XIX would connect Jesus to some random dudes mentioned by Josephus or Maccabees. Now, one could say that the Bahai genealogies are an extremely late document (circa 1850), but I think this must be based on an earlier source. In addition, it could explain the association with Mechizedek or righteous king because theoretically, Jesus would be connected with the High Priest dynasties.
If these connections were right, then they represent a clear connection between early Christians and the Dead Sea scrolls community. More importantly, the parents of Mary connect to the Onias dynasty, which some scholars link to the Qumran teacher of righteousness. What is very intriguing is that the Bahai genealogy uses Luke's proposition for Joseph ancestry but the line of Mary seems gospel independent. We all know his lineage was important enough to be mention in two gospels and controversial enough not to match completely. What really got my eye was a never seen genealogy of Jesus.
